Looking for Oompah Central in the Northeast Georgia Mountains? That would be the Helen Festhalle on Edelweiss Strasse. While Oktoberfest in these parts kicks off early September with a parade and weekend festivities, the month of October is filled with daily entertainment of music, dance, food and drink. Helen has been noted for the longest-running Oktoberfest celebration in the United States, making 2017 the 47th Annual event.

Bands from all over the world perform music during Oktoberfest. Their German folk music is perfect for polka dancing with that lively tempo calling for short half-steps. For those who love ballroom dancing, you will find music for a Viennese waltz played every now and again. Don’t be a bit surprised by an impromptu bunny hop or chicken dance for good measure! Oktoberfest is kid-friendly and offers the kinder their very own dance floor.

The Oompah line-up for this year includes the following bands: Prost with Roberto Voca, Squeeze Box featuring Herb Albinus, Ted Lange & Mollie B., Dan Witucki, The Mein Heimatland Musikanten, Alpenmusikatne, Autobahn, and Europa. For the full schedule with days and times, cyber-waltz on over to the Helen Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest Music Schedule.

The Festhalle is set with rows of long tables making for easy viewing of the stage and dance floor, talking with and making new friends! Speaking of friends, you can even bring your hund! Dogs are always welcome in the Festhalle’s Biergarten located in the back overlooking the beautiful Chattahoochee River.
